Janaan and her husband Dan moved to Las Cruces in 1981, they raised their family here, and have loved this community. Janaan was employed by Las Cruces Public Schools, initially as an elementary special education teacher, then as the special education coordinator and then as the director of human resources. She served on numerous committees and organizations within the school district and represented the school district at the state Legislature for three years. Janaan was a member of Peace Lutheran Church since moving to Las Cruces. There she was council president, and a council member, she has served on numerous committees, and sang in the choir. She was president and active on the board of the Border Servant Corps, a volunteer organization sponsored by Peace Lutheran.
Janaan Diemer was born in Vinton, Iowa, on March 14, 1952. Unfortunately, her life was cut short on February 19, 2007 after a difficult battle with brain cancer and associated complications. Janaan received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, her master’s from Western Illinois University and her Ph.D. from New Mexico State University. She was on the Board of Advocates for the College of Education, NMSU. She was a lover of children and education, the desert and its rocks, family, friends and a good glass of wine.
