Barbara Hubbard has played many roles since coming to NMSU in 1964 as an instructor in Physical Education. She was named Assistant to the Athletic director in 1966 and opened the doors of the Pan American Center in 1968, operating it with a student staff in the early years. She earned her Master’s in Education in 1970 and served as the Aggies Cheerleading sponsor for 20 years. However, she is probably best known as the Director of Special Events from 1975-1996, and continues to serve as a consultant to them.
While many world-renown artists performed in the Pan Am enter during Barbara’s tenure, she feels the greatest production was the first visit by Bob Hope to the Pan Am to honor military members.
Through her work with special events and the A.C.T.S program, Barbara has established 15 scholarships to benefit students studying in performing arts or entertainment management fields. She keeps creating new endowments because, in her words, “The students are the future.”
