On Nov. 10-11, the department will host the “HUMAN” contemporary dance concert. The concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Rentfrow Hall on the NMSU campus. Tickets are $15 in advance, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children. The concert will feature student dancers in the Contemporary Dance Theater and Traveling Aires dance companies, and vocal performances of songs by Sara Bareilles, Phil Collins, The Killers, Keane, Sting, Bob Dylan, Rag’n’Bone Man, Zedd and others, along with songs from current musical productions including “Waitress,” “Tarzan” and “Dear Evan Hansen.” For tickets, call 575-646-4067.

The department is also hosting a 5K race beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, on the NMSU campus. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. the same day in front of Rentfrow Hall. The race is a fundraising event organized by the NMSU Kinesiology Club. The club is looking for event sponsors to allow the club to collect toys for children ages 7 through 12 to give to Toys for Tots.

Kinesiology Club faculty adviser Bob Wood and club officers Will Chynoweth and Olivia Grafe said they all believe it is important that NMSU and its student organizations give back to the community.

“The timing of these events is such that the students all agreed that giving to and supporting Toys for Tots would make a great contribution to our community,” said Wood, a professor for the Department of Kinesiology and Dance. “There are 5,000 children in Dona Ana County who are reached though Toys for Tots, and there is such a need this year for 7- to 12-year-olds to receive something for the holidays, whether it be Christmas or any other observance. Many of us enjoyed Holidays that were overflowing with joy, but nothing will match the joy that we can all share in making a child’s holiday just a little more special.”

5K sponsorships are available for as little as $100, Wood said. Sponsors will be recognized and can elect to have a portion of proceeds go to either dance students and/or kinesiology students, but at least half must go to Toys for Tots.

If you would like to sponsor or donate any amount or donate a toy, or for more information on the 5K, contact Olivia Grafe at 575-646-2215.
