College of Education School Counseling Licensure Course of Study

The College of Education (COE) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) has developed a school counseling licensure course of study for persons who hold at least a baccalaureate degree, but have not completed a traditional preparation program. In order to qualify for the School Counseling Licensure Course of Study at NMSU, a candidate must have a contract with a district as a school counselor.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor's degree in an education related field.
- Employment as a School Counselor with a Substandard (waiver) license.
- Admission to NMSU Graduate School and Counseling & Educational Psychology Department.

- 36 Graduate credit hours Online.

Note: Licensure as a School Counselor in New Mexico requires a Master's degree in addition to the above licensure course of study as well as hold a valid New Mexico level II teaching license or have three years of documented, verified satisfactory experience in one or a combination of the following areas: (a) teaching, educational administration, or school counseling; (b) clinical practice; and/or (c) mental health work.
