Wendy and Travis Traylor

Both Travis and Wendy were dedicated to giving all students the opportunity to succeed in science. Through discovery and exploration, their students developed an appreciation and love for science.

Wendy, a native of Hobbs, N.M., earned a bachelor’s degree in education from New Mexico State University in 2002. Wendy had started her second year teaching seventh grade science at Sierra Middle School while also continuing her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Wendy was very active in the community, especially in nature and science education programs for young people.

Travis was born in Carlsbad, N.M., and later moved to Hobbs, N.M. Travis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2002 at New Mexico State University, and was working toward a graduate degree in biology. Travis had joined a National Science Foundation grant and was joining Wendy’s class every week as an educator. He also participated in the GK-12 teaching program where university faculty and graduate students work together with area middle school science teachers and students.
