Born in West Virginia Claude Dove had a dream of one day becoming a teacher and worked hard at earning his diploma. He eventually went on to receive his masters from Cincinnati, and eventually at the University of Colorado he received his doctorate of Philosophy. Claude Dove served in both World Wars. He went on to influence education and had a professional goal to establish free public kindergartens. He became a founder of the College of Teacher Education at New Mexico State University and was known as the most “colorful” figure in that academic community. Claude taught at NMSU from 1935-1963 and the building Dove Hall was named in his honor. His fellow colleagues called him “a consultant on anything” and his students admired his teaching styles. Claude C Dove was an influential man in the classroom and in the academic community.
