Clarissa Danielle Garcia was born on February 17, 1986 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Sammy and Maria Garcia. She later moved to Las Cruces where she attended Conlee and Desert Hills Elementary School. It was during her elementary school years that she became involved in Ballet Folklorico, Cheerleading and Music. While she attended Camino Real Middle School, she was recognized as an aspiring gymnast, cheerleader, musician and dancer. At Onate High School, Clarissa earned the admiration of many people because of her many talents and contributions. She was a member of Onate’s National Honor Society and held a 3.5 Grade Point Average. Ballet Folklorico, Royal Knight Regiment, Future Teachers of America club and she was a cheerleader.
Clarissa dreamed of becoming a school teacher upon completing her high school career; she had already begun earning college credits through NMSU. She dedicated many hours to teaching Sunday school and to tutoring students at area elementary schools. Upon becoming a member of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, in her Junior year, Clarissa and her team members received a bid to nationals, and later won the state championship title, which was a remarkable event in Clarissa’s life. Clarissa was an exceptional human being. She was honest, a true friend to many, and a wonderful daughter. Her faith and dedication to her church was, without a doubt, one of her most admirable characteristics. Clarissa will be missed by many as she impacted many lives with her beautiful smile and dynamic personality. Clarissa will be remembered for her optimistic outlook, and her encouraging words “Be strong and let your heart have courage for those who wait for the Lord” (Psalm 31:24) which she included in her senior quote: “Everything happens for a reason.”
