SC2: Scientifically Connected CommunitiesInspiring the next generation of scientists!
The 1st Annual SC2 Field Day
SC2 hosted over 30 LCPS 4th-8th grade teachers in April, 2008. In the morning, teachers used GPS units to locate and identify various geologic points of interest at Dripping Springs. Courtney Harmon, a geologist from Texas A&M, and JD Hesse from the NASA Sub-Ortbital Mobile Lab led the teachers on the hike.
Teachers canoed 7 miles down the Rio Grande in the afternoon, discussing water quality, currents, and local plant specimens. All participants were given inquiry-based curriculum materials to use in their classrooms. The event was a great success. The teachers were enthusiastic about the day and implementing some of the ideas with their students.
Thanks to all who participated!
