SC2: Scientifically Connected CommunitiesInspiring the next generation of scientists!
Windmill Technology Engineering Workshop
At the request of the NM MESA Southwest Regional Coordinator, Ligia Ford, SC2 facilitated an engineering workshop session for MESA middle & high school advisors on Dec. 12th at O'Donnell Hall. Teachers used the professional development event to practice their engineering skills as they worked with windmill technology.
The participants also had the opportunity to preview the interactive online game, Science Pirates, developed by Barb Chamberlin, Ph.D. and the University Communications Department. James McVann, multimedia designer spoke to the MESA advisors about the development process of the game. Science Pirates is designed to help middle-school students understand the scientific method, and the difference between independent and dependent variables using high interest pirate scenarios.
During the month of December, Terri Hansen and Ligia Ford have also collaborated on bringing inquiry-based labs to the students of MESA advisors in Deming and Bayard.
