Message from the Department Head
The mission of the department, with that of the
College of Education and university, is to serve the
people of New Mexico through education, research/creative activity

The HPDR Department provides quality instruction in professional
preparation curricula which comply with National Association for
Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) guidelines and competencies,
the Joint Review Committee for Educational Programs in Athletic
Training (JRC-AT), and the Committee for Accreditation of Allied
Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). An extensive and diverse
basic instructional program for all students is also provided. Jointly with Health
Sciences, the department offers one course in general education.
Faculty pursue research topics and creative activity in the area of human performance and pedagogy.
Faculty and staff apply their expertise to public and private schools, civic and professional organizations and the public at large at the community, state, national and international levels. Also, included within the service mission are opportunities for students and staff to participate in organized intramurals and leisure recreational activities. Numerous faculty and professional staff serve as student club advisors on campus.
