Abilitations: Adapt-Talk and Thera-Talk
The Abilitations relaydivision of Sportime proudly sponsors these two list serves, designed to discuss the latest issues about APE and physical & occupational therapy. These interactive sites allow you to send and receive messages from therapists and APE specialists around the world. Messages are posted and archived so you don't miss any of the conversation.

Achievable Concepts
The entire range of adapted equipment and specialized products is listed with prices. The equipment ranges from the passive to the extreme and includes adapted cycles, beach wheelchairs, modified games and cards, bowling aids, specialized gardening equipment, activity resource manuals and other publications. The equipment is suitable for adults and children with disabilities as well as useful for aged care facilities and specials schools.

Adapted Physical Activity Assessment Tests
The Department of Physical Education & Health Promotion at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh offers a website to numerous links including Equipment Sources, Assessment Tests, Disability Resources, Camps for Individuals with Disabilities, and WI Disability Sports.

Adapted Physical Activity Council
The purpose of the Adapted Physical Activity Council is to advocate and encourage programs, policies, standards, and research that will positively affect opportunities for physical activity and recreation available to individuals with disabilities.

Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS)
This website describes the roles, responsibilities, and perceived needs of practicing adapted physical educators. The national APENS exam is also explained and visitors can see when the next exam is going to be.

ADAPTIP: The Support Service for Adapted Physical Activity
This website is an on-line support system for the Center for Active Learning and Empowerment. The center's vision is to enable people who perceive inclusion as an opportunity, rather than as a burden by generating an adaptation database of physical activities for individuals with disabilities.

American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP)
The mission of this website is to lay the foundation for a national network of interscholastic adapted athletic programs and to advance research regarding youth disability sports.

America 's Athletes with Disabilities (AAD)
The mission of this website is to promote and sponsor sports, recreation, fitness and leisure events, including the Victory Games, for children and adults with physical disabilities.

Assessment for Adapted Physical Education (A-APE)
This website contains an MS Excel workbook containing separate worksheets for more than 20 of the most commonly used APE assessment tools. The user merely inputs the raw scores and test data are automatically calculated creating a statistically interpreted written report. Results can be sent directly to a printer or copied and pasted to a word processing program.

Blaze Sports America
The bedrock of Blaze Sports America, are the community-based, year round programs delivered through local recreation providers. These grassroots programs offer introduction and instruction for youth and adults with physical disability in a variety of adapted sports, such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair rugby, swimming, and track and field. Blaze Sports America supports the community providers with training for community instructors and coaches, sports training manuals, operations standards, and other direct benefits. 

Camp Abilities
Camp Abilities is a one week developmental sports camp for children who are blind, deaf-blind or multi-handicapped. Counselors are undergraduate and graduate students from all over the USA in professional preparation programs such as APE, PE, and SPED.

Center on Motor Behavior in Down syndrome
The goal of this website is to share information with scientists, parents, and professionals around the world through presentations and publications of current research, discussion of review papers, and organization of seminars. The ultimate outcome will be a significant increase in the number of people conducting research and scholarship related to individuals with various pediatric disabilities, hopefully leading to meaningful development of movement, play, and sport skills.

Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CP-ISRA)
The mission of this website is to promote and develop the means by which people with cerebral palsy or a related neurological condition throughout the world can have access to opportunities for participation in sport and recreational activities.

Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF)
The mission of this website is to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities to pursue an active lifestyle through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence, and enhances quality of life.

Children's Disability Information
This website was created to help parents of children with special needs with articles on topics that we have found to be supportive to us over the past 15 years. We have also included books and other resources that either our family or parents on our support groups have found especially useful. This website has a special focus on the needs of preemies and young adoptees.

Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CEC)
The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities is a coalition of approximately 100 national disability organizations working together to advocate for national public policy that ensures the self determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
This organization is dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

California State University at Long Beach APE Program of Study (CSULBAPE)
The Department of Kinesiology & Physical Education at CSU Long Beach offers students a diversified and comprehensive academic course of study and field experiences in the administration and implementation of physical activity programming for individuals with disabilities.

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Web Site
This site was created to provide a "one-stop shop" for resources related to IDEA and its implementing regulations, released on August 3, 2006. This site has an Q&A Corner where you can submit questions.

International Blind Sports Federation (ISBA)
IBSA constitutes the supreme international authority on sports matters for the blind and visually impaired, and therefore has the broadest authority and functions that could correspond to any international federation with respect to each sporting specialty.

International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA)
IFAPA coordinates national, regional, and international functions (both governmental and nongovernmental) that pertain to sport, dance, aquatics, exercise, fitness, and wellness for individuals of all ages with disabilities or special needs. 

International Federation of Tennis   (ITF)
It is the ITF's objective to promote and develop the game of tennis to make it a truly global sport available to all in a non-racial, non-political form and to preserve the integrity and independence of tennis as a sport. This includes information on wheelchair tennis topics such as upcoming tournaments and player rankings.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC)
The International Paralympic Committee supervises and coordinates the organization of the Paralympic Summer and Winter Games and other multi-disability competitions on elite sport and grassroots levels.

Internet Resources for Special Children (IRSC)
The IRSC website is dedicated to communicating information relating to the needs of children with disABILITIES on a global basis. This website includes a wealth of information on specific disabilities, laws, adapted equipment and technologies, recreation and sports, and schooling.

This is the leading website on learning disabilities for parents, teachers, and other professionals. The LD OnLine Report offers news about learning disabilities and about the latest events on our website.

London Play
This link is based in London, England but much of the information on play and playgrounds is pertinent to the USA, as well.

Metro Association for Adapted Athletics (MAAA)
 The MAAA website's purpose is to provide online news and information about our adapted athletics programs in Minnesota for coaches, fans, media and league members.

Move Opportunities Via Education (MOVE) International
MOVE International was born out of a need to improve the quality of life for people with severe disabilities. MOVE International is dedicated to helping children and adults with severe disabilities sit, stand and walk through instruction and adapted equipment that enhances independent mobility.

National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (NCPAD)
The mission of the NCPAD is to promote substantial health benefits that can be gained from participating in regular physical activity. The slogan of NCPAD is Exercise is for EVERY body, and every person can gain some health benefit from being more physically active. This site provides information and resources that can enable people with disabilities to become as physically active as they choose to be.

National Consortium on Physical Education and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPERID)
The Mission of the National Consortium for Physical Education and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities is to promote research, professional preparation, service delivery, and advocacy of Physical Education and Recreation for individuals with disabilities.

National Association of State Directors of Special Education
NASDSE operates for the purpose of providing services to state agencies to facilitate their efforts to maximize educational outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

National Disability Sports Alliance (NDSA)
The name, National Disability Sports Alliance, reflects the mission of the organization to serve all individuals with physical disabilities in the areas of sports, fitness and recreation. This is the official website for the United States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association (USCPAA).

National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA)
The NWBA is the nation's oldest and largest disability sport organization, which serves as the national governing body for men's, women's and youth wheelchair basketball in the USA. The NWBA's mission is to provide persons with permanent lower limb disabilities the opportunity to play, learn and compete in wheelchair basketball.

New Mexico Department of Health - Long Term Services Division
The Long Term Services Division provides community based services to individuals living with a variety of disabilities. In addition, the Long Term Services Division provides services to families of children with, or at risk for, developmental delays.

New Mexico State University Adapted Physical Education (NMSUAPE)
This site is provided by the NMSUAPE program to promote APE and Disability Sport in the southwestern United States.

North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA)
NARHA is a national non-profit organization that promotes the benefit of the horse for individuals with physical, emotional and learning disabilities.  For individuals with disabilities, equine-assisted activities have been shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, motor development as well as emotional well-being. This is the premier site for information on equine-assisted activities.

North Carolina is ACTIVE
This website is dedicated to keeping you informed about physical education, health education, athletics and sports medicine in North Carolina and the nation. Energizers are classroom based physical activities that integrate physical activity with academic concepts. These are short (about 10 minute) activities that classroom teachers can use to provide activity to children.

Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services ~ Parent Tool Kit on Teaching and Assessing Students With Disabilities
These new documents were written specifically for parents and include information they need as they work with schools to ensure that their children are receiving a quality education. Materials included in the new Parent Tool Kit provide information that will help them become active and informed participants in IEP discussions and other decision-making meetings that support students with disabilities and their families.

Pacific Lutheran University Adapted Physical Activity (PLUAPA)
Throughout this site are various ideas and links about how a teacher can adapt physical activities to fit the needs of disabled and special needs students. In this site you will find classroom applications, disabilities awareness adaptations for activities, and adaptations for disabilities.

PE Central
PE Central is an excellent website that provides physical education teachers with ideas for games and lessons. It has a bookstore where various literatures can be purchased. There is a specific site just for APE including some basic definitions and testing procedures.

PELINKS4U (Adapted Page)
This website offers numerous links to everything APE from assessment protocols to useful resource sites. You can also look at archived editors comments concerning hot topics in APE.

Project INSPIRE (TWU)
Project INSPIRE is a website that provides an enormous amount of information related to individuals with disabilities. Some of the information include: instructional techniques, inclusion strategies, sport organizations, health and safety issues, and even a parent page to assist with activities in the home and community.

SIRC Sport Research
SIRC Sport Research is a not-for-profit organization based in Ottawa Canada. Founded in 1973 as a resource for coaches, athletes, sports medicine professionals and sporting organizations, SIRC is a leading source for academic and medical sport research. Our flagship product, SIRC SportDiscus database, is considered to be the primary sport research tool in libraries worldwide.

Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped (SABAH)
This website provides information about ice skating programs for people with visual impairments. The joys and lessons learned in the rink translate into skaters' life situations. Goal-setting and achieving, cooperation, courtesy, recognition, and empathy - as well as expanded physical health and stamina - are the lessons that SABAH provides and encourages.

Special Olympics
The mission of this website is to provide information on year-round sports training and athletic competition to more than 1 million people with intellectual disabilities in more than 150 countries. This site has information on sports offered by Special Olympics, links to individual state programs, volunteering, and other pertinent information.

Teaching, Responding, Communicating Inclusive Physical Education
This is a 4 page brochure/document that provides appropriate adaptations for inclusion of all children in quality physical education. This document offers some basic information on how the physical education teacher can ensure that services are available to everyone they teach.

TOPSoccer
 TOPS "The Outreach Program for Soccer" is a community based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers, designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 4-19, who has a mental or physical disability.

World Organization of Volleyball for the Disabled (WOVD)
The WOVD was established in 1992 as the international organization of volleyball for disabled people and is affiliated to the International Paralympic Committee. WOVD encourages the growth and development of the sport in all nations through an organized program of education and instruction.
