The College of Education is committed to enhancing the knowledge of future teachers. The College of Education at New Mexico State University continues to be a national leader in bilingual education, multicultural education, special education, and technology. The college has an excellent undergraduate program in physical education, and the only athletic training program in the Southwest. The outstanding graduate programs include the above areas as well as an APA-approved Counseling Psychology program and programs in Educational Management, Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education.
The College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE is one of the more rigorous accrediting agencies for professional schools and requires extensive internal review and preparation. The College has been accredited since 1961. The College’s continuing accreditation demonstrates a commitment to education excellence. The College is also an original member of the Holmes Group, a consortium of research universities dedicated to improving teacher education and the profession of teaching.
The College has five priority areas to pursue over the next several years:
- Research excellence
