SPECIAL PROJECTS

The College of Education continues to grow and expand. Every year new programs are developed and the need for space and resources persists. The College is very excited about several projects. Some already begun and others still in the making.

Children's Village

children playingThe Children's Village is located at Building A in the Vista Del Monte apartments on campus. The Village is an expansion of the Dove Learning Center in O'Donnell Hall and is expected to host around 300 children at its full capacity. Currently, about 50 children are cared for at the Village. The Village has taken the Early Childhood Education program to a new level. All faculty are now located at the Village and this facility will serve as an additional lab school for students studying Early Childhood Education. Students will study under the expertise of master teachers and have access to faculty on-site. The Children's Village is expected to grow to full capacity within the next year, dependent on funding.

Fulton Athletics Center

The Fulton Athletics Center is located south of Aggie Memorial Stadium. Erection of the facility is scheduled for Spring 2004. Although this building will house primarily athletic offices, the College of Education's Athletic Training Program (ATE) will be located there. Currently this program's headquarters resides in Rentfrow Gym. The Fulton Athletics Center will provide the much need space for the program to meet its ever-growing needs. This program has a maximum capacity of students and the new Center will allow for the College to continue to serve the needs for athletic trainers nationwide. Additionally, the ATE is the only certified program in the state of New Mexico.

O'Donnell Hall

The home of the College of Education, O'Donnell Hall was built in the mid 1960's. Since then, we have grown exponentially and it is time to expand our operation. We have been working closely with state and federal legislators in learning how to seek funding for a new $25 Million dollar facility. New Mexico State University administration has been an essential team player in this effort and we hope to see the ground break in the next couple of years.

There are many other projects to talk about, but these are the ones that stand out this year. Each of these projects is made possible by your generosity and support of the College of Education.
