DISTANCE EDUCATION

COUNSELING & EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
Dr. Enedina Vazquez has moved on campus. Her new role is Associate Dean of the Graduate School. Dr. Mike Nystul has developed a three level threat assessment program in the Deming School District and continually provides in-service training for many in the helping professions related to threat assessment.   Dr. Endina Vazquez has been elected President Elect for the New Mexico Association of School Psychologists.

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
Dr. Rudolfo Chávez Chávez received the first Regents Professorship Award in the College of Education. Dr. Paula Wolfe who received the Donald Roush Teaching Excellence Award.

EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Dr. Eduardo Arellano, Dr. Ramon Dominguez, and Dr. Mary Prentice, all faculty members of the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program went to Kansas City to participate in coaches training for the Ford Foundation funded project called the Rural Community College Initiative.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION & DANCE
The NMSU Dance Program presented their spring concert, Movement of the Sole, in March. Dr. Cheryl Coker received the Southwest District AHPERD Honor Award. The NMSU dance program, under the direction of Debra Knapp, presented its 2002-03 performance season finale - "Feeling the Beat."

SPECIAL EDUCATION/COMMUNICATION DISORDERS
Dr. Michael Kimbarow, program director for Communication Disorders, was appointed to the advisory board of a new online journal and website entitled "Speech Pathology Online." Dr. Rod Wood, Communications Disorders, received the Award for continuing Education from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. The department sponsored the first of four national trainings for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Indian Education Programs. Dr. Eric Lopez Special Education/Communication Disorders, was selected as the recipient of the 2002-03 Patricia Christmore Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Elissa Poel completed a summer post doc at the University of Kentucky in Assistive Technology. Dr. Kathleen Chinn was elected to the Board of Directors for the state chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association.
