Candidate Awards & Recognition

2000-2001

Amy Mascarenas was awarded the Fall 2000 Outstanding Senior Award by the Alumni Association. She achieved a grade point average of 3.974 while participating in several university activities. She served as both chaplain and financial vice president for Alpha Xi Delta as well as actively participating in three different honor societies.

Lina Benavidez of Caldwell, Idaho, a bilingual education and Spanish major, received the Spring 2001 Outstanding Senior Award. Lina achieved a 3.515 grade point while participating in several university activities including the Hispanic Educators Association, Educational Council, Hispanic Executive Council, and the Literacy Council. She begins graduate work at Harvard this fall.

Delia Arzapalo was named this year's Gerald Thomas Outstanding Junior by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Carrying a 4.0 with a major in Communication Disorders, Delia works full time in the dean's office of the College of Business Administration and Economics.

Eduardo Arellano, now Dr. Eduardo Arellano, received the "Best Presentation Award" at the NMSU Graduate Student Council's Graduate Research & Arts Symposium.
