Degree Seeking Admissions

If you wish to obtain a degree through NMSU, you need to be admitted as a degree seeking undergraduate or graduate student .

  • Undergraduate: Apply for undergraduate admission online or contact the NMSU admissions office(646-3121) for an application by mail.

  • Graduate: Students wishing to enter a graduate program apply for graduate admission through the NMSU Graduate School.

Non Degree Seeking Admission

Non degree admission is designed to meet the needs of mature, part-time students who do not wish to pursue a degree at this university. Non degree students may not transfer more than 9 credits from this status to any degree-seeking program. Students on non degree status are not eligible to receive financial aid or student employment.

Students interested in using non degree credit for initial teacher certification or recertification in a new field will be admitted to the College of Education. All others will be admitted to the College of Health and Social Services. Transcripts from previous institutions, high school, and/or results of college entrance exams may be required to assure readiness for university-level courses. Non degree students are subject to the same university regulations as regular students.

Admission requirements include a non degree application and $20 application fee. Contact the NMSU Admission Office for more information and an application (646-3121), or complete the application online . (Incomplete applications are not processed).

Additional Information

If you were not enrolled during the previous semester you will need to complete the application process as a new or readmitted student. If you are working on an undergraduate degree, you will need to use the undergraduate admission application. Students admitted to Graduate School are current for one calendar year.The application for Graduate School and Non-degree admission can be submitted on-line from either home page. All required paperwork for admission must be received and processed before the registration deadline.
