Associate Dean Karin Wiburg

Dr. Karin Wiburg assumed the position of Associate Dean for Research in June 2004. As Associate Dean for Research, Karin directs the Educational Research Center in O'Donnell Hall. The Education Research Center (ERC) assists faculty, staff, and students in locating outside funding sources, preparing grants proposals, and administering funds once they are received.
Dr. Karin Wiburg is currently a full professor in the Curriculum and Instruction department at New Mexico State University (NMSU). Since 1993 when she began her work at NMSU she has written and received over $3 million in grants to support the integration of technology with standards-based instruction in schools and teacher education. Her research focus is the design and implementation of technology-mediated learning environments in collaboration with practicing teachers and administrators. She has developed, implemented and manages new masters and doctoral programs in learning technologies and supervises the integration of technology in the pre-service teacher education program.
Prior to coming to NMSU Karin taught at Cal State-San Marcus and at United State International University in San Diego and London. Before that she was an administrator and teacher for 15 years in Seattle and San Diego, where she taught and supervised programs in literacy, mathematics, and English as a Second Language (ESL) and implemented the first computer-assisted learning labs in the Seattle district. Her international work includes teaching international graduate students in education about technology and curriculum during two summers in London, England and teaching a technology and language learning class in Brazil supplemented by an online course (Web-CT). She has also developed and taught distance education classes to students in this country and in Puerto Rico. She has written and published widely in the area of information technology in both research and practitioner journals, has co-authored three books, and serves on editorial boards.
The NMSU College of Education has significant outreach to the state of New Mexico through its sponsored programs and distance education programs.
