Athletic Training Education
The New Mexico State University Atheletic Training Education Program (ATEP) was initially accredited in 1986 by the National Atheletic Trainer's Association (NATA). The NMSU ATEP is CAATE accredited, and has a competitive application process required of students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training education. NMSU ATEP Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training Education, and meet the requirements to sit for the Board of Certification Examination (BOC).
The New Mexico State University ATEP is committed to providing challenging didactic and clinical experiences which prepare students to take the BOC examination.
Certified athletic trainers are health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. As part of the complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches and parents. Certified athletic trainers(ATC) may be found in a variety of settings, such as high school, collegiate, or professional athletics, rehabilitation or industrial clinics, and military posts.
