PEP 557 Adapted Physical Education: A Practitioners Approach
Audience: This five week summer course is designed for graduate students with an interest in learning, teaching, or playing sports that are designed to include a more diverse population of participants. Lead-up games and competitive sport activities will be demonstrated so students can strengthen their knowledge of how to teach all individuals lifetime physical activity.
Students will learn:
- how to play/teach a variety of lifetime physical activities and games
- an emphasis will be placed on disability sport to include individuals of all abilities
- the numerous benefits lifetime physical activity programs can provide a community
- how to implement lifetime physical activity into their current curriculum
Lifetime Physical Activities that will be covered in PEP 557 include:
- wheelchair basketball

- goalball
- sit volleyball
- wheelchair tennis
- bocce ball
- disc golf
- indoor wheelchair soccer
- adapted aquatics
Practicum: Students will be offered many opportunities to learn, play, and teach in community-based adapted physical activity programs, such as NMSUAPE Disability Sports Night.
