Physical Education Teacher Licensure

Suggested K-12 PE Teaching Course Sequence

 

Below is a suggested sequence for PEP/SPM courses.  Students can fill in the professional education courses not listed in places that are free.

Anywhere in Freshman or Sophomore Year students should take the following

  1. PEP 185: Foundations of Physical Education – 3 credits
  2. PEP 250: Sport Safety – 2 credits
  3. PEP 208: Fitness For Health And Sport – 3 credits

Sophomore Year

  1. SPM 271 & SPM 271L: Anatomy & Anatomy Lab – 4 credits
  2. EDUC 315: Multicultural Education – 3 credits

Junior Year Fall Semester

  1. SPM 310: Anatomical Kinesiology
  2. PEP 341: Motor Development – 3 credits
  3. PEP 392: Theory of Sports and Games - 3 credits
  4. PEP 393: Theory of Dance and Rhythms – 1 credit
  5. PEP 318: Lifetime Activities I – 2 credits
  6. PEP 319: Lifetime Activities II – 2 credits

Junior Year Spring Semester

  1. SPM 308: Exercise Physiology (prerequisite SPM 271 & SPM 271L) – 4 credits
  2. PEP 342: Motor Learning – 3 credits
  3. PEP 363: Theory of Lifetime Leisure – 1 credit
  4. PEP 315: Elementary PE Methods (prerequisite PEP 185; 341) – 4 credits
  5. PEP 455: Adapted PE – 3 credits

Senior Year Fall Semester

  1. PEP 466: Secondary PE Methods (prerequisite PEP 185; 315) – 4 credits
  2. PEP 410: Physical Education Assessment – 2 credits
  3. PEP 305: Biomechanics – 3 credits
  4. RDG 414: Content Area Literacy – 3 credits

Senior Year Spring Semester

  1. EDUC 471: Student Teaching – 9 credits
  2. EDUC 482: Student Teaching Seminar – 3 credits
