University Swim School

Jeff Ellis Swimming is a community-based instructional program primarily developed for teaching swimming t children 3 to 10 years old. The program's flexible design permits site-specific customization that is locally administered to best fit a community's needs. The innovative teaching techniques taught through Jeff Ellis Swimming are designed to enhance student learning in a challenging, fun and competitive way.
Curriculum
Preschool Level
- Preschool level classes serve as a water introduction course for children ages 3-5. Preschool swimmers will develop skills such as rhythmic breathing and floating and will increase their confidence in the water.
Beginner Level
- Beginner level courses, for children ages 5-7, provide basic swimming skills for each student. Building on the skills learned in the preschool curriculum, the students will gain basic knowledge of freestyle and backstroke.
Intermediate Level
- Intermediate level classes, for children 8-9, offer a comprehensive overview of all four swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. By combining content from previous classes and adding additional practice of each stroke, the student gains knowledge and understanding of nearly all aspects of swimming.
Advanced Level
- Advanced level classes, for children 10 and up, offer an in-depth swimming experience, focusing on technique and increasing confidence. Students will be challenged to become proficient swimmers and learn additional skills such as child CPR, treading water and various survival skills.

*If for any reason your child cannot attend his/her scheduled class for an extended period, accommodations will be made if space is available in other classes or sessions. The NMSU Natatorium does not offer refunds for the University Swim School.
