PROGRAM GOALS

  • Provide a model of aquatic programming which reflects trends in the field and is responsive to the needs of all students, faculty and staff.
  • Provide programs to help promote a balance between academic and occupational life that are responsive to participant input/desires, and afford participants the opportunity to fulfill basic human needs: goal setting; socializing and achieving; maintaining physical fitness; competing; participating.
  • Offer quality leisure time experiences in a comprehensive range of participatory and/or passive activities for all persons, regardless of age, sex, skill level, developmental disabilities, or sport /activity interest.
  • Promote positive health behaviors to members of the university community by offering a wide variety of physical recreation activities which promote fitness, wellness, proper nutrition in an active life-style, fun and effective leisure activities and through positive role modeling and support.
  • Encourage the program participant to develop and improve his/her leisure activity skills and enjoy them for a lifetime.
  • Provide recreational sports program experiences which facilitate development in the cognitive, physical and affective learning domains.
  • Outreach to other departments with similar goals and provide lifetime experience for those "lessons learned" in the academic offering of Health, Physical Education or Recreation classes, or through varsity athletics, and to provide supplemental experiences that promote and advance the knowledge and skills learned.
  • Provide opportunities for student leadership and development of specific job training experiences.
  • Promote safety awareness and practices in the aquatic environment.
