Diving Safety and Etiquette

staff

  • Before using the diving board you must demonstrate that you can swim 25 yards.
  • One bounce only (for practice or diving)
  • One person on the board at a time. Please wait to dive until previous diver has left the water.
  • Check to see that no one is under or around the board before you dive.
  • Dive off the front end of the board and away from the board, then swim to the nearest side and exit the water promptly.
  • Do not swim in the diving area or directly under the board.
  • Hanging on the board is not allowed.
  • Do not attempt complicated dives without proper training. Inward rotating dives (includes reverse dives) are not permitted, except under the supervision of a diving coach.
  • No high-board (3 meter) diving allowed.

Lap Swimming Safety and Etiquette

  • Lap swimming only times (as indicated on the pool schedule), are for persons 16 years of age or older.
  • Please be considerate of other swimmers. If you are not swimming laps please move out of the lap swim lanes.
  • Swim on the right side of the lane - not side by side or down the middle of the lane. CIRCLE SWIM.
  • Slower swimmers should use the outside lanes and leave the middle lanes for the fastest swimmers. SWIM FINS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN THE SLOW LANES. When lanes are marked estimate your swimming speed and select the appropriate lane. If everyone in your lane is slower than you then move to a faster lane. If everyone in your lane is faster than you then move to a slower lane.
  • There is no simple solution to passing. When a swimmer becomes aware that the person behind is faster, that swimmer should move to the extreme right of the lane or stop at the nearest end wall to allow the faster swimmer to advance.
