Message from the Department Head

Peter MaudThe mission of the department, with that of the College of Education and university, is to serve the people of New Mexico through education, research/creative activity and public service.

The HPDR Department provides quality instruction in professional preparation curricula which comply with National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) guidelines and competencies, the Joint Review Committee for Educational Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT), and the Committee for Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). An extensive and diverse basic instructional program for all students is also provided. Jointly with Health Sciences, the department offers one course in general education. activity center

Faculty pursue research topics and creative activity in the area of human performance and pedagogy.

Faculty and staff apply their expertise to public and private schools, civic and professional organizations and the public at large at the community, state, national and international levels. Also, included within the service mission are opportunities for students and staff to participate in organized intramurals and leisure recreational activities. Numerous faculty and professional staff serve as student club advisors on campus.
