Dr. Cheryl Coker is a Professor with the Department of Human Performance, Dance and Recreation at New Mexico State University. She received her undergraduate degree in physical education from Louisiana State University where she was also a member of the NCAA Championship Women's Track and Field Team. Her research stems from her experiences as a coach and athlete with specific interest in designing optimal skill acquisition experiences that enhance performance. Her textbook Motor Learning and Control for Practitioners has been cited as “an extremely valuable addition to the motor learning field” and a new edition is expected to be released Fall 2009. In addition to this text, Cheryl has also co-authored Play for Power: Creating Leaders through Sport, published numerous journal articles, and has given over 60 presentations at national, regional and state conferences.
