| The Bilingual Education/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program focuses on developing deep understandings in the areas of multi/ bilingualism with a concentration on bilingual education for students who are native speakers of Spanish. Students will demonstrate scholarship in the areas of teaching, research, and service as related to the education of English language learners. Basic to the program will be the preparation of educational leaders who will serve as advocates for social justice and equity for bilingual/TESOL students and their families. | |||
| I. | Prerequisites: | ||
| Masters degree in Bilingual Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Literacy, Reading or related field including the following coursework (or appropriate equivalencies): | |||
| EDUC 515 Multicultural Education | 3 credits. | ||
| EDUC 587 Pedagogy of TESOL | 3 credits. | ||
| BIL 522 Language & Literacy for Bilingual Students | 3 credits. | ||
| EDUC 568 Educational Applications of Computers | 3 credits. | ||
| Language Requirement:
Students must demonstrate proficiency in a second language in academic contexts. Admission to the doctoral program and interview with Bilingual/TESOL faculty. Doctoral programs can be individualized to each student's interests and needs and will be co-constructed with and approved by the student's chair and doctoral committee. |
