Curriculum Vita

 

Dr. García is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education, New Mexico State University. He is Director of Elementary Education. His areas of specialization include Educacìon bilingúe crítica/ESL/Literacy; critical and anti-racist pedagogy; international education; critical curriculum development and education of Latinos.

Dr. García received his doctorate in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University in 1982. He joined the College of Education at NMSU in the fall of 1991 and currently serves as Professor of Curriculum and Instruction. Before coming to New Mexico State, Dr. García taught at Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University. While at Texas Tech and Texas A&M, he studied and completed Postdoctoral Studies at Harvard University in Higher Education Administration in the areas of Management and Leadership. He is a nationally recognized critical bilingual educator and has authored and co-authored numerous articles, chapters, and books in critical bilingual education. Dr. García is editorial board member and field editor of several journals and book publishing companies. He has traveled throughout Latin America and most recently completed a teacher education program that offered a Master of Arts in Teaching TESOL to Brazilian educators at the University of Southern Brazil (UNISUL) in Tubarão, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Additionally, he serves on several state and national boards and committees, and presents at local, national, and international meetings and conferences.
