Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance

Admission Information

In addition to the requirements of the Graduate School (see the Graduate Catalogue, "Admission") the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department requires:

  • GRE Scores, Verbal and Quantitative
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty or counseling related supervisors
  • "Letter of Intent" Form
  • Statement of Purpose (brief, 1-2 page statement about your interest in pursuing counseling as a career, any work/ volunteer experience you have related to counseling, and your experience/orientation regarding working with people from diverse populations, i.e., diverse cultures, religions, socio-economic status, disabilities, sexual orientations)
  • List of completed upper division and/or graduate coursework (including grades) related to counseling
  • Aptitude for graduate level study including technological competence and computer literacy
  • Unique contribution to the program such as multicultural background and special skills (e.g., sign language)
  • Resume or curriculum vita, (recommended) including publications, grant proposals, relevant work samples

NOTE: Prospective students may be interviewed as part of the application process.

DEADLINE: March 1 for admission during the following academic year (usually beginning in July). Late applicants may be accepted contingent on space available within the Program.
