Eight couples will showcase their best dance moves during the 10th season of Look Who’s Dancing!, the principle fundraiser for New Mexico State University’s Dance Program.
This year, Look Who’s Dancing! will begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Pan Am Center. Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and younger, and are available at the Pan Am or from dance students and featured community “celebrities.” Tickets purchased at the door will be $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and younger.
Funding from Look Who’s Dancing! supports the program, which is housed in the NMSU College of Education’s Department of Kinesiology and Dance. The funding allows the NMSU DanceSport teams to compete, the contemporary dance companies to travel to the American College Dance Association Conference, and the Sol y Arena flamenco dance group to make its bi-annual trip to study in Spain. Funding from the show allows the dance program to produce concerts, buy costumes and fund scholarships.
This year’s participants are Robert Baur, owner of Toucan Market; NMSU professor and Learning Games Lab director Barbara Chamberlin; Katy Patermeier, NMSU alumna and occupational therapist at MountainView Regional Medical Center; Abel Ramirez, route merchandiser for National Entertainment Network; Anastasios Rammos, owner of Tiffany’s Pizza and Greek Cuisine; makeup artist Ryan Romero; Tray Roy, content director at the Las Cruces Bulletin; and Heather Salopek, owner of Legacy Pecans.
Each participant is paired with an NMSU DanceSport student. They spend eight weeks preparing a waltz and a showcase routine, then compete for a mirrored ball trophy. The show will also feature performances from NMSU dance companies and area high schools
